The RIT Men’s Basketball team had a successful 2008-2009 campaign.  The Tigers won the Empire 8 conference championship which led them to their first NCAA appearance since 1999-2000.  RIT lost to Salem State in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament; closing the season with an overall record of 19-9 and a conference record of 12-4.

The conference title is the 6th title under Coach Bob McVean, who also recorded his 400th victory as the RIT Men’s Basketball coach.  RIT forward Mark Carson was named the tournament’s most valuable player after recording 27 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 steals.  This was Carson’s 24th double-double of the season.  He also moved into 7th place in all-time scoring at RIT.  Carson led the league in rebounding with 14.1 boards per game.  He was 2nd in conference scoring with 19.7 points per game.  Carson was named 1st Team All-Conference after receiving 2nd Team All-Conference honors last season.
