My name is Clarissa Baston, but my friends call me Monkey because they are my favorite animal and I used to jump and cling to people freshman year. I'm going into my fourth and hopefully final year at RIT as an Illustration Major/Theater Minor. (I was one of those artsy theater geeks in high school.)
I originally came to RIT as a Fine Arts Sutdio major, but decided that Illustration was a better fit for me. Art has always been in my blood. My uncle worked for Hanna-Barbera and my mother is an amazing artist. I love cartoons and still watch them to this day. (even though I think old school cartoons are the best, ie Superfriends and Ren and Stimpy)
I never associate myself with a specific hometown. I was born in Des Plaines IL, grew up in New York City, lived in the Philippines for a few years, and moved to Syracuse NY my freshman year of high school. So...I've been around...kinda.
After I graduate RIT, I plan on maybe going to pastry school. I want to open my own bakery and decorate cakes and maybe illustrate some childrens' books on the side. It's a weird goal...but it's better than wanting to be a refrigerator, which was what I wanted to be when I was little (don't ask)
I chose RIT because of it's excellent Illustration program. The professors really know their stuff and they are always happy pass their knowledge down to you.
Monkey
I think they would describe me as being very shy and quiet at first, but a little ball of energy once you get to know me :)
ROCHESTER WINGS!!!!!!!
Steak & Lobster (i ain't cheap)
I love to sing. I sing about everything. I wish my life was a musical.
Top Chef, Project Runway, Pushing Dasies, Heroes, Girls Next Door, The Soup, Flight of the Conchords and various cartoons
The Beatles & Maroon 5
Monty Python and the Holy Grail, 5th Element, Kinky Boots, Finding Nemo, Amelie, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Waiting, Singing in the Rain, and many many more!
I like to go to Java's...it's relaxing, but easy for me to focus.
Not yet. I'm saving up for a tattoo of the Barrel of Monkeys (i
Just my ears
I'm pretty quirky and I know a lot of random trivia.
I like to make and decorate cakes. I do my family and friends' bday cakes. It's a lot of fun.
Whenever I get into my car, I have to lock all the doors 3 times, or else I freak out. I have other little quirks, but we won't get into that :P
Haha! And you were a Freshmen when you saw it right!? Honestly, I think Adventure Time should be, if it isn't already, a right of passage for all RIT Freshmen!
YES!!! I was hoping you'd say that you had her! She is my favorite teacher, even though i didn't exactly think she was that great at the time. I visit her class all the time, she even makes me put in my 2 cents whenever there's a critique. [smiley=happy]
You guys probably got the email about the wind chill advisory today... If it's so cold that we might run the risk of frostbite and hypothermia...then why do we have to go to class??? Boggles my mind sometimes...
it is! it's actually my second attempt at the project...the original one was stolen!
but it's a combination of Green Eggs and Ham and Hitchcock's North by Northwest
Gah! That stinks...literally! I hope none of your lovely coloraid work was damaged! Gina would not be happy about that.
Anyways, walking to class in the snow is not fun, especially when it's windy and your lugging all your art stuff with you. One time I was walking through the breezeway with my giant pad of newsprint and I was literally blown away!
Being an Illustration major and having to do projects all the time...I think these are pretty awesome. I wish I could take this class, even though I'm terrible at anything science.
I had dengue fever once (I lived in the Philippines) and it was awful, but now at least I can put a face with the culprit!
Relationships are hard! It's especially hard when you are in a relationship going into college and you're not able to see your "boo" as much as you would like.
I was in a relationship before I came to RIT and my boyfriend at the time went to Purdue (in Indiana.) Yeah...tis quite a distance. And it proved to be our downfall. It's was hard to be close to someone so far away and at the same time connecting with people who live in the room next to you...in my case right down the hall. I'm dating the boy down the hall now and we've been going strong for two years now!
Technically, I haven't taken a wellness class yet, but I'm planning to take a stress management class in the spring. I also want to take core glutes and abs or volleyball.
I tried to use the bikes with the monitors, but I have really bad motion sickness so I got really dizzy really quickly! I can't even play most video games or watch documentaries because of the camera moving so much! It's awful! lol
I believe if you take AP classes in high school or are a transfer student, the department that you apply to will review your transcripts and determine what credits will transfer over. After that they determine what classes you still have to take and plan it out for you. I'm not entirely sure how everything works, but I am sure that your first quarter is done for you. Hope this helps!
whoa whoa whoa...what holiday did I miss?! It's crazy how in high school national holidays were something to look forward to, but now I don't even know when holidays are! The only time that I know when holidays are when my mom calls me and nags me to come home! But I suppose since i've been here for three years, i'm used to it.
I stayed in Rochester last summer and it was so much fun! It didn't even feel like I was working! I took one class so it wasn't too bad. This summer I'm taking online classes so I have to option of going back and forth from RIT and home.
